Inkaterra First Peruvian Hotel Chain to Win Green Choice Sustainable Tourism Award

Peterson Control Union Green Choice Sustainable Tourism Standard is the first Green certification approved by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RVA)

January 20th 2012. – With the presence of the Minister of Tourism and Commerce, José-Luis Silva, Inkaterra received the First International Certificate in Sustainable Tourism given by CU Green Choice Sustainable Tourism Standard. During the ceremony, the Minster highlighted the importance of the award given to a Peruvian tourism organization such as Inkaterra, which has focused on ecological conservation since 1975. He mentioned: “It is an honor that a Peruvian hotel chain is the first organization worldwide awarded with such an important Certification.”José Koechlin, CEO of Inkaterra, and José Purisaca, General Manager of the NGO Inkaterra Association (ITA), received this award emphasizing their commitment to Sustainable Tourism and conservation principles for protected natural areas.

“We conduct research for the conservation of ecosystems, generating employment for the local communities, with the development of tourism. Inkaterra is pioneer in Sustainable Tourism in Peru and the world, with 36 years in operation.”

The Dutch Accreditation Council (RVA), certified the Control Union Worldwide Group with the European Quality Standard 45011, and presents Control Union Peru, which awarded this important Certification for the first time in the world.

Green Choice is a Sustainable Tourism Accreditation Scheme, created and supported by a certified body which follows the guidelines of programs such as ISO 65 and the 17021 norm (Product and Services Accreditations).

This Certification is based on 7 principles oriented to the application of policies and strategies of ecological tourism, environmental management, cultural sustainability, as well as educational programs for local communities.
